The Redlands neighbourhood policing team will hold a Redlands and University Safer Neighbourhood Forum on Thursday 1 February at 7.00pm at building L33, room G12 on Reading University’s London Road campus, near Crown Place.
While our University students are engaged in scholarship sublime or out volunteering, or maybe just kicking wheelie bins down Hatherley Road after flooding Reading pubs dressed as golfers (for reasons I don’t want to understand), you could be using one of their three great bars, where well-behaved townies are welcome. All three have reasonable prices and well-trained, polite staff, but refreshingly little else in common with each other. I have been wearing the hair-shirt by breaking dry January and drinking and eating in all of them. They have varied opening times, so best to check the links.
What a nice experience to pop over the road from my job at the Royal Berkshire Hospital to the fourth Summer Show of the Reading Guild of Artists (RGA) in the UoR London Road campus. The exhibition features a rich variety of paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and mixed media work from over 50 RGA members, as well as showcasing the final year work of BA Ed Art students from the University of Reading.
Here at the international HQ of the Whitley Pump on top of Katesgrove Hill, we decided to celebrate our first birthday by ‘beating the bounds‘ of Katesgrove ward. This is a walk of over 4 miles around the perimeter of the ward, or as near to the perimeter as can be obtained without swimming or getting run over.
