South Reading tennis courts improved – shame about the tatty banners!

The four tennis courts at South Reading Leisure Centre on Northumberland Avenue have been given an upgrade with new nets and posts. The hard courts have also been painted purple and green. A shame the banners on the fencing weren’t tidied up too!

Despite the colour scheme, which is unique amongst Reading tennis courts, this is hardly up to Wimbledon standard.

We asked Reading Borough Council why these colours had been chosen and we were told:

We chose the colour scheme based on feedback from the contractors who stated that this was by far the most popular colour choice for tennis courts at the moment.

The improvements were funded from developer contributions from nearby housing schemes.

The courts can be booked at a cost of £6.15 an hour online (login required) or by ringing South Reading Leisure Centre 0118 937 3399.
