The first day of December

December, from the Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry c1440

The first day of December and there are a bewildering array of advent calendars out there counting down to the 25 December and Xmas day.

Up here on Katesgrove Hill at the Whitley Pump we are going to take things at a more relaxed pace and make the most of the 31 days, a whole month, of 2018 before the new year dawns.

The artist of December (pictured above) from the Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry has been identified as Paul Limbourg, one of three brothers who along with others contributed to the illuminated manuscript.

In the background is the Château of Vincennes situated on the west of Paris; or could it be Reading’s new high rise skyline?
