A busy August for young people in south Reading

Berkshire Youth and Reading Borough Council have teamed up to organise many events for young people in south Reading in August.

Workshops

These free workshops need to be booked in advance (except the basketball) by emailing RBC neighbourhood initiatives officer Ebony George at ebony.george@reading.gov.uk or phoning her on 0784 172 1457.

Create your own track with music technology

A music producer will offer tips and tricks on how to use editing software to create your own music tracks. This hour-long workshop is for 12-18 year olds and laptops will be provided.

Street dance

An experienced dance artist from Reside Dance will lead these friendly hour-long workshops for children and young people of all abilities. All sessions will be at the Whitley Wood Community Centre, Swallowfield Drive, RG2 8UD.

  • Mini Streetz, for ages 8-11
    • Friday 10 August 10 -11am,
    • Monday 13 August 10-11am.
  • Urban crew, for ages 12-15
    • Friday 10 August 11am-12pm,
    • Monday 13 August 11am-12pm.
Basketball

The pro-coaches at Reading Rockets invite young people of all ages to shoot hoops with them on Tuesday 14 August from 1pm until 2pm at the court at the South Reading Community Hub, 260 Northumberland Avenue, RG2 7QA.

Community Youth Day

In addition to the workshops above, Berkshire Youth have arranged a community youth day at Rabson’s Rec, next to the South Reading Leisure Centre, Northumberland Avenue, RG2 8DF, for Tuesday 7 August from 1pm until 4pm. All events are free, only one needs to be booked.

  • Fun and games at 1-3pm, for all ages,
  • Research and video production at 1-4pm, for 12-18 year olds. Booking is required via Charlotte at charlotte@berkshireyouth.co.uk or 0782 569 9050,
  • Basketball with the Reading Rockets at 1-2pm, for all ages,
  • Berkshire youth games and challenges at 2-4pm, for all ages,
  • Rugby with London Irish Hitz, from 1-4pm, for ages 14-19,
  • Get Berkshire Active sports samplers, from 1-4pm, for ages 10-18.
