The walk will set the IDR in its historical context of 1970s town planning. We will discover what lies beneath; the streets of houses, pubs and businesses swept away in its path of tarmac and brutal concrete. We will also take in important historical sites on the route.
This is an opportunity to appreciate what we see on the way, including the road itself.
The walk will start at the bottom of Southampton Street outside Premier Inn and Evans Cycles, and follow the IDR anti-clockwise around the centre of Reading for about 4 miles.
Places are limited to 12 and bookings are required via Eventbrite.
This year, Heritage Open Days will be taking place over two September weekends rather than one; 6-9 September and 13-16 September.
Full event listings are available on the Heritage Open Days website.
