New Christ Church primary school first opened its doors to pupils on 14 July 1868 and on 14 July 2018 they celebrated with a summer fair.
The fair was attended by Reading mayor, Councillor Debs Edwards, the vicar of Christ Church Rev Dr Peter Day and curate Dr Liz Ratcliffe. Queen Victoria and other members of the Victorian Strollers added a colourful touch of time travel to proceedings.
Two sisters who had been pupils at the school in the 1930s are picture above. Their mother had also attended the school in the early twentieth century.
Display boards described the history of the school, copies of the earliest plans and photographs of pupils from the past, including Marianne Faithfull who lived just over the road at No 41.
