Alpine Street grit bin has a staycation this year

Katesgrove’s VIP grit bin on Alpine Street has decided that the weather is so good that there is no need to head for the Costa del Depot this year.

Faced with permanent retirement at the end of this year’s winter season, the grit bin may have had a reprieve. Certainly the council’s proposal to save £16,000 by removing grit bins from the streets of Reading was criticised by Councillor Ed Hopper [at 2:18:00] when it was aired at the Reading Borough Council (RBC) full council meeting on 28 February this year.

Timing is all in politics, and deciding to make this particular proposal on the night when the ‘Beast from the East‘ was imminently expected may have forced a rethink. Importantly, the policy committee papers showed 0% confidence in being able to achieve this saving.
