Plans to demolish the Red Lion public house and replace with flats

Red Lion Southampton Street – the pub was withdrawn from sale in advance of the advertised auction

Property developers MacNiven Quays have submitted a planning application to demolish Red Lion public house on Southampton Street, as well as the house next door to it, and replace them both with a four-storey block of flats.

The new development will comprise of three studios, six one-bedroom and three two-bedroom flats. You can see what the new development would look like in the view plans and documents section of the online planning application.

The site is almost opposite St Giles’ Church and is adjacent to the Market Place/ London Street conservation area.
