Reading Borough Council (RBC) have approved a development to provide accommodation for people with special needs, including learning disabilities or autism, on the corner of Northumberland Avenue and Warwick Road.
The charity Creative Support already own properties on either side of the proposed new building, which has been designed to match the existing Warwick House next door.
Creative Support offers supported housing services to the council, who will have the opportunity to informally nominate people to live in the new building. Provided that rents are offered at or below local housing allowance rates, the building will be classified as ‘affordable housing’
“The really exciting bit for me is that we are now looking at accommodation for vulnerable members of our community,” said councillor Jan Gavin at RBC’s planning applications committee on 8 March.
