Student development on Silver Street may be rejected

79 Silver Street

Planning officers from Reading Borough Council (RBC) have recommended that a proposed development of 65 student studios is rejected at next Wednesday’s planning applications committee (PAC).

The existing building, which houses the Christian Community Action furniture shop on the ground floor, would have been demolished and replaced with student housing.

The application (161805) was for 65 units in three and four storey buildings plus basement accommodation around a sunken courtyard.

The report, which is going to the committee because it is classified as a major application, includes comments from Councillor Rose Williams. She said that development as student accommodation was not right for this site in Katesgrove.

The PAC will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday 8 March in the Council Chamber, Civic Offices, Bridge Street, Reading, RG1 2LU and is expected to be webcast.
