Thomas Homes to develop site on Crown Street and Silver Street

Property developer Thomas Homes has acquired the site at the junction of Silver Street and Crown Street in Katesgrove, near to the Rising Sun Arts Centre.

A spokesperson from the company said that they will be building apartments there and expect to submit a planning application this year and start work in 2018.

Those who walk past the site may notice a few changes. Apart from the Thomas Homes boards on the fences, there has been some tidying up and the overhanging buddleia has been cut back.

A residential institution was expected on this site. Reading Borough Council granted  outline planning permission for the initial application (151702) in December 2015; the application was withdrawn in February 2017. An amended application was resubmitted (160868) and this was approved in September 2016.

Thomas Homes are already in the process of converting St Mary Court, 32-40 London Road, only a stone’s throw from the Silver Street site.
