Reading Town Meal in rain and shine!

The Reading Town Meal, now in its fourth year, got off to a wet start in the Forbury Gardens on Saturday 1 October.

The Whitley Pump couldn’t stay for the food but we were there until around noon when the final preparations were being made to serve customers from 12.30.

The sun is trying to break through!

An incredible amount of precise organisation and project management goes into an event such as this. The focus of the event was the food that was prepared, cooked and served by Reading College catering students.

But there were a lot of other activities, amusements and diversions for visitors.

Music from the bandstand

There was music from the bandstand and the musicians may have been glad they were under cover.

Global Cafe tea and coffee

There was tea and coffee served by the Global Café at RISC, who were doing a roaring trade.

Workshop Area

There were workshops on fermented foods from Reading Food Growing Network, on bee keeping from Reading and District Beekeepers’ Association and on wine from Thames Valley Wine School.

Food Waste Disposal

There was precise attention to the details of recycling and waste disposal, although hopefully not a lot went into this bin!

And finally there was the food!
