Rough sleepers and travellers’ camps in Katesgrove car parks

Southampton Street

The Katesgrove neighbourhood policing team (NHPT) have been attending rough sleepers in car parks around  Crown Street, South Street, East Street and Mount Pleasant. The car parks have been cleaned up and will continue to be monitored.

Traveller’s camps in local business car parks have been moved on with the help of landowners.

The NHPT are currently working alongside housing associations to evict troublesome tenants who have been behaving anti-socially.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) are making enquiries to find a male suspect identified after a number of burglaries to a local business. TVP is still running an anti-burglary operation from last year with offences running at an all time low.

A vulnerable male has been assisted with moving to new premises after he was exploited by drug dealers. There has also been an arrest of another vulnerable male, who was cautioned, after drugs were found at his home address.

Katesgrove NHPT have played an important role in some successful drug warrants both within the neighbourhood and other areas. This was only possible due to information received from the local community.

TVP are running a drug operation to disrupt and deter dealers and users, aimed at identifying new dealers coming to Reading from other areas. A number of arrests and charges have been made.

Katesgrove NHPT can be contacted through the non-emergency number 101 or by email at These methods cannot be used to report crimes or for any urgent matters.

If you have information about crime but don’t want to contact the police, you can call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
