Proposal to change Scarlet 9 bus route

Reading Buses have proposed changes to the scarlet 9 bus route after listening to Whitley residents as part of the Whitley Big Local transport project.

Reading Buses say the new route

…will continue to run down Shinfield Road, but will run via Cressingham Road, Buckland Road and Basingstoke Road. It will then run via Whitley Wood Lane and Whitley Wood Road before turning left onto Hartland Road and right onto Northumberland Avenue. From there it will then turn right back onto Cressingham Road and then left back onto Shinfield Road to return to Reading town centre via the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

This route will mean that the bus will visit all major points of interest in the area such as the Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl stores and Whitley Community Cafe, and will link many more parts of Whitley directly with the hospital.

Proposed Scarlet 9 bus route

As well as better serving the local community, Reading Buses  hope the changes will revitalise a route that does not currently cover its costs.

A consultation on the changes has a deadline of Monday 13 June 2016. Comments can be e-mailed to feedback@reading-buses.co.uk, or sent by using leaflets available at Whitley Community Café on Northumberland Avenue.
