Distraction burglary on Highgrove Street

Highgrove Street

The Redlands area has seen an increase in burglaries this spring, and a resident of Highgrove Street, Katesgrove was subjected to a distraction burglary.

Police reported that in the Highgrove Street incident, a resident was asked by a cold caller to the house if they wanted work carried out on the property.  The offender was given money that he said he would count outside the house but he then left the area. Police advise against  accepting work at the door from cold callers and that the public remain vigilant of their surroundings and make sure windows and doors are locked.

A male was issued with a fixed penalty notice in April after a small quantity of cannabis was found near Hexham Road.

There have been several thefts from vehicles that caused no damage. Police think that offenders are gaining access with a device that remotely unlocks some makes of cars. Police advise that no valuables should be left in cars and glove boxes be left open to show this.

The Redlands neighbourhood police team have given evidence at court against a rogue trader who was targeting elderly residents. Joint work between residents and the police have resulted in the offender being sentenced to four years imprisonment.
