Reading University hosts a number of music events over the summer, from final year student recitals to 24-hour musicals.
BA (Ed) final year performances
The university’s institute of education will be presenting performances on 20 and 22 April at 12.30pm and 11 May at 9.30am by BA (Ed) primary education finalists with a music specialism. They are all held in room G01, music centre, building L29, on the London Road campus.
This comprises of a mixed programme of solo recitals covering a range of styles and genres, and entrance is free.
Music society concerts
The music society jazz ensemble plays for Café Mondial at the student union on Whiteknights campus on 28 April starting at 8.30pm. The music is free, although the bar isn’t.
On 10 June at 7pm, the music society will hold its annual summer concert in the gardens at Wantage Hall, Upper Redlands Road. Admission is free and guests are invited to bring their own picnic.
The May concert will be performed by the University of Reading ensemble in residence ‘Perfect Fifth’ and the June concert by Luca Luciano on clarinet and Paolo Lossi on piano. Entry is free.
On 4 June at 7pm the university of Reading chorus, chamber choir and symphony orchestra, together with local schoolchildren, will perform Holst’s St Paul’s Suite, George Shearing’s Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare and Handel’s Zadok the Priest at the concert hall at Reading old town hall. Tickets cost £15 (£12 concessions).
Big band big lunch
The university big band serenades a BYO picnic at the London Road campus on 5 June. Family friendly activities are also laid on at this free event.
Drama Society 24 hour musical
The university drama society plans to rehearse and perform a full scale musical in 24 hours on 7 June at 3Sixty, the student union, on the Whiteknights campus. The performance starts at 7pm and tickets cost from £5 to £10.
