Papers going to the Traffic Management sub-committee on Thursday 14 January include a review of waiting restrictions in Reading, some of which are in Katesgrove and the local area.
Detailed maps and descriptions of the changes can be downloaded from the council website.
A ‘No Waiting at any Time’ restriction is proposed for the junction of Britten Road and Elgar Road South, almost opposite the entrance to Waterloo Meadows.
Conversion of a ‘No Waiting Mon-Sat 8.30 am – 6.30pm’ to ‘No Waiting at any Time’ restriction is proposed for a junction on St Giles Close.
There are also significant changes on Cintra Avenue and Warwick Road, at the top of Northumberland Avenue.
- ‘No Waiting Mon-Fri 11 am-noon’ on the west side of Cintra Avenue
- ‘No Waiting Mon-Fri noon-1 pm’ on the east side of Cintra Avenue
- ‘No Waiting Mon-Fri 11 am-noon’ on the north side of Warwick Road
- ‘No Waiting Mon-Fri noon – 1 pm’ on the south side of Warwick Road
- ‘No Waiting at any Time’ at the junction of Warwick Road and Northumberland Avenue
On Long Barn Lane restrictions are proposed limiting waiting to two hours, no return within two hours Mon-Fri 8 am – 6.30 pm.
‘No Waiting at any Time’ is proposed at the junction of Long Barn Lane and Tavistock Road.
Some of these proposals have been suggested by local residents and local councillors. One request that did not make it as far as a proposal was to deter non-resident on Waterloo Road. The reply to this request stated:
Waterloo Road does not fit the criteria for a resident permit scheme, as the majority of the households have off-street parking facilities.
Any waiting restrictions would also apply to residents and is unlikely to gain support. It is therefore recommended that no further action be taken.
If accepted on Thursday, the proposals made will be taken forward to a statutory consultation process, subject to which they will be implemented.
